This policy explains what personal information The School Chronicles (“we”, “us”) collects when you use schoolchronicle.com, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We aim to collect as little as possible.
Information we collect
- When you contact us: your name, email address, the topic you choose and your message. These are emailed to our desk and stored in our website’s admin area so we can reply and keep a record of corrections.
- On your own device: the schools you add to Compare and the city you last picked are saved in your browser’s local storage so the site remembers them. This stays on your device and is not sent to us.
- Technical data: like most websites, our hosting provider keeps server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested and time) for security and to keep the site running.
Third-party services
Some pages load content from other services, which receive your IP address and browser information when they do: Google Fonts (typefaces), and Google Maps (school location maps). Their own privacy policies apply. If we add analytics or advertising, we will update this policy before doing so and, where required, ask for your consent.
How we use information
- To reply to your message and act on corrections and updates.
- To keep the website secure and working.
- To understand, in aggregate, which pages are useful.
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share it except with service providers who help us run the site (such as our web host and email provider), or when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Contact messages are kept for up to two years, or longer only where a message relates to a correction we made. Server logs are kept for the period set by our hosting provider.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or withdraw consent you have given. Write to editor@theschoolchronicles.com and we will respond within 30 days.
Children
The School Chronicles is written for parents and adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Contact and grievances
For any privacy question or complaint, write to editor@theschoolchronicles.com with “Privacy” in the subject line.
Changes
We will post any changes to this policy on this page and update the date above.
