Before you fill in a single admission form, there is one document worth twenty minutes of your time. Every CBSE-affiliated school is required to publish a Mandatory Public Disclosure on its own website, in a format the board sets. Most parents never open it. Here is what it contains and how to use it.
Where to find it
Look for a link called “Mandatory Public Disclosure”, “MPD” or “CBSE Disclosure” on the school’s website, usually in the footer or under an “About” or “Affiliation” menu. Some schools publish it as a web page; others upload a PDF.
What is inside, section by section
The disclosure follows the same five parts at every school, which makes it easy to compare two schools side by side.
- General information. The school’s name, CBSE affiliation number, school code, address, principal and contact details.
- Documents and information. Copies of the affiliation letter, the society or trust registration, the no-objection certificate, recognition under the Right to Education Act, building safety and fire safety certificates, and water, health and sanitation certificates.
- Results and academics. The fee structure for the session, the academic calendar, the school management committee, the parent-teacher association and the board results for the last three years.
- Staff. Details of the teaching staff.
- School infrastructure. The campus and its facilities.
The three things parents should check first
1. Is the affiliation current?
The affiliation letter shows the period the school is affiliated for. Check that it covers the classes your child will study in, especially Classes X and XII, where students sit CBSE board exams.
2. Are the safety certificates valid?
Building safety and fire safety certificates carry dates. A school should be able to show valid ones. If a link is missing or a certificate has lapsed, ask the school about it.
3. What do three years of results look like?
The results table lists, for each year, how many students registered, how many passed and the pass percentage. Some schools add their average score. Three years tell you more than a single topper headline.
| Class XII, DPS Mathura Road | Registered | Passed | Pass % | School average |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023-24 | 329 | 325 | 98% | 83.01% |
| 2024-25 | 329 | 325 | 98% | 81.90% |
| 2025-26 | 311 | 310 | 100% | 84.45% |
A pass percentage near 100% is common in established schools. The average score, and how it moves from year to year, usually says more.
What it will not tell you
The disclosure is a compliance document. It does not describe teaching quality, how the school handles bullying, or how homework and wellbeing are balanced. For those, visit the school, talk to current parents and ask direct questions at the admission interaction.
Quick checklist
- Find the disclosure link on the school’s website.
- Confirm the affiliation covers the classes you need.
- Check that safety certificates are present and in date.
- Read the fee structure for the coming session.
- Compare three years of Class X and XII results.
